In honor of our awesome
community partners, especially The Center for Young Women’s
Development, GiRL FeST has organized a gathering of fierce
female musicians, MCs, comediannes and poets in “Sistaz
Rising.” Starting the night are comediannes Bushra
Rehman and Ali Wong. You will laugh so hard, you will
wake up the next day with a smile literally plastered
on your face and sore ab muscles. Forget the abmaster
at the gym. These women rock it hard.
Sistaz Rising is a night
of conscious Hip-Hop that will make “your neck lock.”
MC and singer Medusa, once dubbed “the Angela Davis
of Underground Hip-Hop” will literally blow up the
mic with her goddess style and words of truth for the
sisters and brothers in the community who support our
cause. Oakland based soul sister Jennifer Johns will no
doubt move you to raise your fist in the air in solidarity
and peace.
Goddes & She, always
a festival favorite, will definitely represent with their
unique style and message and Hawaii-born band Citizen
Fury will give you something to think about and goove
to with their funkified tunes. DJ Zita’s heat on
the decks will definitely get your butt on the dance floor
and hip-hop collective SISTERZ OF THE UNDERGROUND’s
DJ Deandroid will scratch circles around you as the Extra
Credit Crew busts out moves that will impress. Hosted
by Rachel McKibbens, a firey slam poet from New York with
something to say. So listen up!
